New Lacrosse Format for 2009-2010

Because of the continued growth of high school Lacrosse in Georgia, the GHSA will change the alignments of the areas and will add a new championship division. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year there will be Lacrosse championships (boys and girls) for schools in class AAAAA and for schools in classes AAAA/AAA/AA/A. This is the same format that is used in the sport of Swimming and Diving.

Each division leading to a championship will be composed of four areas, and the top four teams in each area will advance to the playoffs. There will be four rounds of playoff competition as has been the case in recent years. Championship matches will be held on May 14-15, 2010. Because of the expanded number of matches during the playoffs, specific dates may need to be mandated in order to be certain there is an adequate supply of experienced officials.

Please note that Greenbrier High School, a AAAAA school, has been placed in the other division as allowed by the “Isolation Policy” approved by the GHSA Executive Committee.
