CHICAGO (June 11, 2009) — In its third decade of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in partnership with ESPN RISE, today announced Hope Rush of Eagle's Landing Christian Academy as its 2008-09 Gatorade Georgia Softball Player of the Year. Rush is the first Gatorade Georgia Softball Player of the Year to be chosen from Eagle's Landing Christian Academy.

The Georgia High School Association regrets to announce that slow pitch softball will no longer be a sanctioned sport beginning with the 2009-10 school year. A lack of school participation is the reason for this suspension of slow pitch softball. The GHSA continued to sanction slow pitch during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years despite the fact less than a dozen member schools fielded teams. But indications are that participation will fall to such a low level in 2009-10 that it will no longer be feasible to sanction the sport.
