Sports Safety in High School Football Video

The goal of every high school administrator, coach and the sports medicine team is to allow their athletes to participate safely and injury free. Sports provide an opportunity for competition, teamwork, dealing with success and adversity and most importantly to develop a framework for future successes. Sport injuries particularly related to concussion have received tremendous media attention regarding their long term consequences and exertional heat illness is one of the most preventable conditions.

The goal of this video produced at University of Georgia by the Sports Medicine Staff is to educate you about many of the most common sport-related injuries and provide you with information regarding your health and safety. Some of the topics on the video are exertional heat illness, hydration strategies, concussion, neck and spine injuries along with proper tackling techniques by UGA football coaches Todd Grantham and Kirk Olivadotti. At the conclusion of the sport safety video, there is a bonus video on nutrition by UGA Sports Nutritionist Jen Ketterly.

This video was funded by a grant from the Georgia High School Association and Blue Cross-Blue Shield.
