Procedural Items

  1. Officials shall not wear visible jewelry with the possible exceptions of wedding bands and necessary timing devices.
  2. Officials should wear their hair in a neat, professional manner. Local associations may set grooming standards that are more restrictive than GHSA rules.
  3. When the GHSA selects officials for playoff games or for special-request games, local associations (who are not on the field or court) may be asked to provide sideline officials (chain crews) or table officials. It is expected that those who are asked will supply those officials if they are available.
  4. When the GHSA assigns officials in sub-region, region, and other post-season competitions, the officiating crews should be multi-racial/multi-ethnic in their composition.
  5. The liaison person for each association (usually the Secretary) must be a person who handles details efficiently and one who is reasonably easy to contact during the workday.
  6. The GHSA will not review tests and/or test scores nor clinic attendance records from previous years. These issues must be resolved before the current end-of-year reports are filed.
  7. Officials shall not smoke or use smokeless tobacco while they have jurisdiction over a game.
