Support for Coaches and Officials Needed as Another Year of High School Activities Begin
Dr. Karissa L. Niehoff, NFHS Chief Executive Officer
Periodically, The NFHS Voice will be presented in the form of video. This week, NFHS CEO Karissa Niehoff urges support for high school coaches and officials as a new year begins. She says rather than focusing on the scoreboard, let’s support coaches for the positive impact they are making in the lives of millions of student participants. To improve support for high school officials, the NFHS will be launching a nationwide campaign in the next few weeks that addresses bad behavior and lack of respect. Support for these individuals is crucial if high school games and contests are going to continue.
Dr. Karissa L. Niehoff is starting her fifth year as chief executive officer of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is the first female to head the national leadership organization for high school athletics and performing arts activities and the sixth full-time chief executive of the NFHS. She previously was executive director of the Connecticut Association of Schools-Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference for seven years.
