High school baseball fans brought their excitement to the 2021 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Baseball Championship games -- setting record attendance with 20,788 tickets sold for the recent games at Truist Park, Coolray Field, and Historic Grayson Stadium. As professional sports and high school sports programs lift capacity limitations, organizers are seeing increased attendance and tremendous fan excitement.
High schools in 2020 adopted capacity limits and other pandemic safety measures. But most are preparing for full attendance at sport events and other school activities in the fall.
The success of bringing fans back to sporting events like GHSA’s baseball championships is possible through the association’s partnership with GoFan, the leading provider of digital ticketing for thousands of schools nationwide. Every fan attending the 2021 Baseball Championships used Alpharetta-based GoFan’s platform for purchase. Statewide, more than 60 percent of schools use GoFan.
“The excitement of fans at the baseball championships this year was incredible,” says Robin Hines, Executive Director, Georgia High School Association (GHSA). “Having all of our tickets sold digitally through GoFan made our record-breaking attendance easy to manage.”
The May 24 doubleheader between Parkview and North Paulding (7A) set a record attendance of 6,124, with Parkview emerging victorious.
“GoFan was an integral partner in allowing us to host events this year,” says Nick Gast, Parkview’s Athletic Director. “Our fans embraced the ease of GoFan and their platform allows athletic programs to maximize ticket sales and limit expenses.”
Digital Ticketing Embraced by Fans
For high schools, the ability to offer “frictionless” purchasing for sporting events, theater productions, and other activities makes the experience both easy and quick. Every transaction is transparent, refunds are simple to issue, and athletic directors and bookkeepers cut their time spent on ticketing issues.
“The GoFan team was honored to play a role in this record-breaking championship season for the GHSA,” says BJ Pilling, GoFan’s CEO. “Through the GoFan platform, we continue to work closely with the GHSA and member schools to drive greater attendance across all sports.”
