Carror “C” Wright, who recently joined the staff of the Georgia High School Association as Associate Director for Compliance, was this year’s recipient of the Atlanta Falcons High School Coach of the Year Award. Wright, a 30-year coaching veteran from Wrightsville, was presented the 4th annual award at a luncheon sponsored by Falcons coach Mike Smith in Atlanta on February 4.
The award, whose previous winners were former Valdosta coach Mike O’Brien, former Thomas County Central coach Ed Pilcher and former Commerce coach Steve Savage, is given “in honor of service to the coaching profession.”
Wright, a graduate of Johnson County High School and Ft. Valley State University, was offensive coordinator for Worth County’s AAA state championship team in 1987 and, as a head coach, guided Northeast Macon to the state playoffs four years in a row and took Dougherty High to the state championship game in 2000. He also was head coach at Terrell County and Southwest Macon.
In addition to his coaching success, Wright has served as a member of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Board of Directors for 18 years and was president of the GACA in 2008. He also served on the GHSA's State Executive Committee before being chosen for his present position.
