CHICAGO (June 25, 2024) — In its 39th year of honoring the nation’s most elite high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Jasmine Robinson of North Cobb High School is the 2023-24 Gatorade Georgia Girls Track & Field Player of the Year. Robinson is the first Gatorade Georgia Girls Track & Field Player of the Year to be chosen from North Cobb High School.
The award, which celebrates the nation’s top high school athletes for excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community, distinguishes Robinson as Georgia’s best high school girls track & field athlete. From CEOs and coaches to star athletes, Gatorade Player of the Year winners showcase the power of sport, touting an all-star group of alumni that includes Sanya Richards-Ross (2001-02, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Fla), Sydney McLaughlin (2016-17, 2015-16 & 2014-15, Union Catholic High School, N.J.) and Angelina Napoleon (2022-23, Allegany-Limestone Central School, N.Y.).
The 5-foot-8 sophomore hurdler and sprinter broke the tape in the 300-meter hurdles at the state meet this past season, clocking a state-record time of 39.89 seconds, which ranks as the No. 2 performance in U.S. history by a prep girl. At the USATF U20 Championships, Robinson took second in the 400-meter hurdles event with a time of 57.31 to break another state record with the No. 19 time in prep history. Her best 100-meter hurdles time of 13.55 ranked No. 9 among girls prep competitors this spring. She also won a state title in the 200 and earned All-American status with a bronze medal finish in the 400 hurdles run at Nike Outdoor Nationals.
Robinson has volunteered locally on behalf of her school’s Rally Club to support finding a cure for childhood cancers. As a member of the North Cobb High School Beta Club, she has donated her time to community cleanup projects. She has also coached youth track athletes in addition to helping out at youth track meets. “Make no mistake, Jasmine Robinson has rocketed to ultra-elite status in 2024,” said Rich Gonzalez, editor for PrepCalTrack.com. “A head-turning talent in the 300-meter hurdles—ranking second all-time nationally in the event in between a pair of eventual Olympic gold medalists—she competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the USATF U20 Championships against collegians, smashing the state record by 1.50 seconds and earn a spot in the World U20 meet in Peru this summer.”
Robinson has maintained a weighted 4.50 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the state winners in each sport.
Robinson joins recent Gatorade Georgia Girls Track & Field Players of the Year Olivia Powell (2022-23, Woodward Academy), Kaniya Johnson (2021-22, Lowndes High School), Janae Profit (2020-21, Dunwoody High School) and Jasmine Jones (2019-20, Greater Atlanta Christian School), among the state’s list of former award winners.
As part of Gatorade’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sport, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner. To date, the Gatorade Player of the Year program has provided more than $4.9 million in grants to winners across more than 1,900 organizations.
