The GHSA’s celebration of 50 years of Title IX continues with a spotlight on Dr. Lucia Norwood.
Lucia Norwood has proven to be an influential leader for women in sports in Georgia High Schools. She has served as a coach, teacher, and athletic administrator for 38 years. She was the coordinator for athletics in DeKalb County Schools. She served on the Georgia Athletic Directors Association Board of Directors being the first woman to serve as President in 1994, and later as the Executive Director. Lucia also served on the GHSA Executive Committee from 2000-2010. At the national level, Dr. Norwood served on the NFHS Gymnastics Rules committee from 2002-2009 and in 2009 was inducted into the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame. In 2019, she was also inducted to the Lakeside High School Sports Hall of Fame. In 2018, the GHSA Gymnastics State Championship was named after her in honor of her dedication and leadership as a coach and administrator.The GHSA’s celebration of 50 years of Title IX continues with a spotlight on Dr. Lucia Norwood.
