GHSA SPECIAL RULES MOFIFICATIONS FOR HOSTING/ATTENDING/COMPETING IN GYMNASTICS COMPETITONS
The considerations outlined in this document are meant to decrease potential exposure to respiratory droplets by encouraging social distancing, limiting participation in administrative tasks to essential personnel and allowing protective equipment during practice and competition.
- Host school responsibility (considerations- please check with your AD and Department of Public Health to compare with other events held in your school).
The host should:
- Sanitize/clean mats and equipment before competition. This includes all equipment used for stretching, landing, warm ups, etc.
- Provide hand sanitizer for all teams attending.
- Limit the number of teams allowed to compete in each session to accommodate athletes and spectator seating.
- Highly recommended social distancing requirements in spectator areas.
- Sanitize all officials’ tables and chairs between sessions if applicable.
- Equipment
- Face masks/coverings are allowed during warm ups and during the performance on all apparatuses.
- Please use safety precautions when wearing masks. If a gymnast removes the face covering while performing or warming up, pleases have them to put them back on when they have completed their performance.
- Athletes will use their own water bottle during and after performances.
- Athletes should arrive in their uniform (leotard) under warm up attire. Dressing rooms should not be available.
- Arrival
- Masks should be worn by all coaches, gymnastics, managers, etc. when entering the building.
- Staff checking in teams should wear masks.
- All trainers should wear masks.
- All judges will wear masks or face coverings.
- Teams and athletes should practice social distancing from other teams and coaches.
- Awards
- Teams should remain socially distanced from others during awards.
- Masks should be worn by athletes while accepting awards.
- Concessions
- Food at concession stands should be packaged.
- Multiple hand sanitizer bottles should be available.
- Masks for workers in concession areas are highly recommended.
- Spectator entrance
- All ticket takers should wear masks and gloves or sit behind a protective barrier.
- All social distancing guidelines of staying 6 feet from others should be marked for the ticket line or provide an option for online ticketing. (as your AD)
- Limit the number of fans if necessary.
