Have you ever seen the lighting effects at a GHSA member school like Lumpkin County High School or a Division I college venue like Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium and thought: “I wish we had that at our field?”
Color-changing fixtures, pole accent lighting, and special effects can significantly enhance the player and fan experience – and recent advances in lighting technology have put these capabilities within reach of more high school athletic facilities.
For example, Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) in Wayne, New Jersey, recently upgraded their football stadium with Musco’s LED lighting system and the same Show-Light® entertainment technology used at nearby Rutgers University. After one season of elevated player introductions and touchdown celebrations, including light shows synchronized to music, PCTI’s facilities coordinator said: “We’ve already got our money’s worth. Absolutely.”
For Hammond School in Columbia, South Carolina, the benefits were evident after just one game. Athletic Director Jeff Barnes remembers: “The first time we set off our light show, the entire student section went nuts.”
