Clayton County Eagles vs. the Houston County Sharks at 3 PM; All-State Team Honored
Atlanta, March 6, 2023. The Rematch is Set! The Clayton County Eagles will take on the Houston County Sharks for the Varsity Wheelchair Basketball State Title this Saturday, March 8th at 3:00 pm at the Macon Centreplex. The American Association of AdaptED Sports Programs (AAASP) and the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) will host the 2025 AAASP/GHSA Dr. Ralph Swearngin State Wheelchair Basketball Championship Varsity Game Saturday as part of the state championship slate that day. The Wheelchair Basketball Championship will feature the final two Varsity Wheelchair Basketball teams – the Clayton County Eagles vs. the Houston County Sharks– from across the state, as the American Association of AdaptED Sports Programs continues its 29th season. This year’s Championship and second place trophies will be presented by Dr. Tim Scott; and banners will be presented by the new AAASP Executive Director Dr. Jenny Millward.
Students representing over 40 varying physical disability groups competed this year. The top four (4) teams in the JV and Varsity divisions competed the last weekend for qualification. The Junior Varsity Championship Game was held Saturday, March 1, 2025, between the Georgia Storm and the Peach County Rolling Trojans. This was Georgia Storm’s first appearance in a JV Title Game; Peach County’s second. The Peach County Rolling Trojans beat the Georgia Storm (38-23) to earn the Junior Varsity State Title. The Varsity Semifinals were held this past weekend; the Clayton Eagles defeated the West Georgia Wolverines (41-28) to make it to the Varsity Finals; Houston Sharks received a bye as the first place team in regular season standings.
AAASP teams from the following school districts, in a dual governing alliance with GHSA, participated in wheelchair basketball this year. In the varsity division, they were: the Clayton Eagles, the DeKalb Silver Streaks, the Gwinnett Heat, the Houston County Sharks, and the West Georgia Wolverines. In the junior varsity division, they were: the Atlanta Wolfpack, the Clarke Classic City Dawgs, the Georgia Storm, the Houston Jr. Sharks, the Muscogee Lions and the Peach County Rolling Trojans.
